Presentation Abstract

Repsol has a strategic decision to support LNG/NG as one of the leading energies for a sustainable future.
The recent start-up of the first regas terminal in Canada, supported by a robust commercial structure to maximize the downstream added value of the LNG chain, has consolidated Repsol as one of the main players in region and in the global LNG business.
As an integrated part of Repsol’s core business, the growth of the LNG activities is driven by the following key factors:

  • Focus on integrated projects: from the Upstream to the end-user optimizing the total margin.
  • Strength in marketing; efficient management of contracts and resources
  • Continuous optimization of the assets; transformation cost’s efficiency
  • Identification and development of new business opportunities.
  • Customer focus: the reference to increase the value

The increasing role of LNG within the world-wide primary energy mix faces some exciting challenges that must be managed to achieve sustainability:

  • Post-crisis period: is it finished? a lost decade or just a new one? Protectionism vs. commercial flows? When the liquidity will be recovered? Are the investment and supply-demand cycles balance?
  • Prices: shall they finally converge? New contract’s typology?
  • Unconventional gas: new supply outlook? shall be globally expand? How this fact can affect the global business? Shall OCDE countries be more self-dependent?
  • Green policies; reality or good intentions?
  • New needs, new players: flexibility, security, geopolitics, Latin America, Asia…
